How prepared do you have to be?How much do people want to be prepared before they get started on a challenging goal, such as starting a new job? Passion for work--is it desirable in every culture?Does everyone want to be passionate about their work? While slogans like "follow your passion" or "do what you love" are celebrated in Western work world, we argue that passion for work might not be as desired and valued in cultures that place greater emphasis on harmony and interdependence. However, we found that thinking of a goal as a plan, instead of a wish, is related to beliefs and behaviors that are more conducive to success. I am exploring how thinking of a goal as a plan (vs. a wish) can make people be more proactive and strategic in their pursuit of goals.

Goal achievement and a sense of purposeWe constantly strive to achieve goals, but does achieving a goal always give us a sense of profound fulfillment? I would like to investigate how a sense of purpose may help people not only achieve their goals more successfully but also find greater meaning from their accomplishments. I am especially interested in exploring this idea in work context.
